Canvas and Schoology Users: Getting Started Instructions

Updated January 27th, 2026

Before users can create assignments with materials from the Gallopade Grade Level Course within Canvas or Schoology, users must align their school and classes within the My Courses widget and assign a course to each class.  This process must be completed for each course in Canvas or Schoology using the Gallopade Grade Level Content.

After logging into Canvas or Schoology, selecting a course and using the external tool, you will receive a notification message similar to below if you have not completed the setup process.

To complete your setup, click on the Start button from the Link resource from external tool modal.

Clicking on the Start button takes the user to the Connect to a Gallopade Course screen. Clicking on the X icon will close the Course linking modal. The fields of Connect to a Gallopade Course include :

  • Select School dropdown displays the school details and allows the teachers to Select the Appropriate School for displaying Gallopade Courses based on their School's Subscriptions.

  • Courses and Sections:
    • Teachers can view the course card showcasing Schoology courses and sections assigned to them, rostered from the LMS. The card includes detailed information such as the course origin, period, course name, course ID, and section ID.
    • Includes a dropdown for subscribed Gallopade Courses next to the course card.
    • For Courses without sections, the course card displays details including the LMS source, course name, and course ID, excluding section information.

Courses with Multiple sections:

For Courses with multiple sections (e.g., cross-linked), these sections will be displayed nested under the respective course card.

When the teacher clicks the Select Gallopade Course dropdown, the system displays all courses associated with the current class, enabling the pairing of an LTI course with its corresponding Gallopade course.

  • View Rosters Modal:

NOTE: Until the student has accepted the invitation to join the course, the View Roster link will be disabled.

After the student has joined the course, the View Roster link will be enabled.

Clicking the View Rosters link beside the student count reveals a scrollable list of students in the class, formatted by last name followed by first name. Clicking the X icon will close the View Roster modal.

  • View-Only Courses:  This will allow teachers, non-rostered teachers, and admins to choose a Gallopade Course so they can view content without requiring a class section.
  • When the teacher clicks the Select Gallopade Course dropdown, the system displays all courses associated by the district.

Clicking on the checkbox on the left side of the course will add the course details to the View- Only Courses.

  • Clicking on the Save button at the bottom of the page saves the course and section linking information and navigate to the Summary modal box.

A Summary modal will be displayed with the message “Your LMS courses have been paired to Gallopade !” .

Clicking on the Add Content to Course button will navigate the teacher to the Connect to a Gallopade Course page.  Click on the arrow to navigate to the next screen and proceed with adding content.

Teachers can click on the content they wish to add to the course and click Add Content button.

After completing this process for each course, the teacher will be able to create assignments within Canvas or Schoology using the External Tool Option.
