Student's Guide to Built-In Tools for Interactive Types of Assignments

Interactive types of resources include Digital Student Book, ExperTrack Assessments, Vocabulary Builders, Vocabulary Quizzes, etc.
Navigation
To navigate through the pages of the resource, use the arrows or page numbers at the bottom of the screen.
Read Aloud
To have the entire page read aloud, select Read Aloud on the right toolbar, then press Listen in the menu on the top left.
To have select text read aloud, highlight the text you want read aloud by clicking and dragging over the text with the mouse. Then select Listen from the pop-up menu.
Translate
To have the text translated, highlight the text you want translated by clicking and dragging over the text with the mouse.
Then select Translate from the pop-up menu.
By selecting Translate from the pop-up menu, you'll receive a list of languages.
Once you select a language, a pop-up will appear with the selected text translated.
To have the translated text read aloud, select the play button on the top left of the pop-up.
Zoom In/Out
To zoom in/out, select Magnify in the toolbar on the right.
Then select Zoom In or Zoom Out in the drop-down menu.
To reset the screen after zooming in/out, select Magnify from the toolbar on the right and select Reset.
Font Size
To adjust the size of the font, select Font Size from the toolbar on the right.
Then select from the font options in the drop-down menu.
To reset the font, select Font Size from the toolbar on the right and select Reset.
Annotation Tools: Highlighter
To highlight important details, select Highlighter from the Annotation Tools section of the toolbar on the right.
Click and drag over the text with your mouse and then select a color from the menu.
To delete highlights, use the mouse to click and drag over the highlighted words and select the trash can icon from the highlighter pop-up menu.
Annotation Tools: Annotate Text
Users can annotate on the page by drawing, adding shapes and text boxes. After selecting the Annotate Text tool in the right tool bar, users will notice a Hide Annotations button on the top left of the resource screen. This places a canvas on the page that allows users to show or hide their annotations without deleting them completely.
Draw
- Select Annotate Text from the toolbar on the right.
- Optional: Select the fill color for your drawing by selecting the palette icon on the left of the pop-up menu.
- Select the pencil or paint brush .
- To draw on the screen, use your mouse by clicking and dragging.
Add Shapes
- Select Annotate Text from the toolbar on the right.
- Optional: Select the edge/fill color for your shape by selecting the palette icons from the pop-up menu.
- Select the shape tool from the pop-up menu and choose from the menu.
- The shape will appear on the screen and you can use your mouse to adjust the placement and size.
To Add Text:
- Select Annotate Text from the toolbar on the right.
- Select the icon from the Annotate Text menu.
- A text box will appear in the middle of the screen. Then you can edit and move the text box with your mouse.
To undo, redo or delete annotations, use the tools at the bottom of the Annotate Text Menu.
Assignment Notes
A note-taking tool is available to students while they are working on their assignment. On the right side of the screen, students will notice the ‘Assignment Notes’ icon under the Other Tools section of the tool bar.
Additional Tools Available
For extended open response type of questions, there will be additional tools available for users to use to enter their answer: Speech-to-Text and On-Screen Keyboard.
These two tools will be located at the top right of the screen.
Speech-to-Text Tool:
- Select the Speech-to-Text icon. A Start button will appear.
- Press Start and the system will type the user's spoken aloud answer. When finished answering the prompt, or to pause, select Stop.
- To turn off the tool, select the Speech-to-Text icon again.
On-Screen Keyboard
- Selecting the On-Screen Keyboard icon will cause the keyboard to appear on the screen.
- Click and drag the six dots on the keyboard to drag the keyboard to another area of the screen if needed.
- Use your mouse to select the keys of the on-screen keyboard to type into the question's text box.
- To remove the keyboard, select the On-Screen Keyboard icon again.
